2024 Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute / Midwest Faculty Development Institute

Applications are now accepted for the Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute and Midwest Faculty Development Institute. Both will be held in July 2024 at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. Links to the applications for either institute can be found at the bottom of this post.

Great Plains Lions Leadership Institute:

All districts in Iowa have some sort of scholarship program for Lions who wish to attend GPLLI.

GPLLI Event Description: “Training to prepare Lions for leadership positions throughout the organization. The GPLLI program is customized to best accommodate the needs of the area.” Dynamic facilitators from across the Great Plains will provide emerging Lion leaders with modules on diversity; goal setting; Lions fundamentals; local issues; mission statement; motivation; public speaking; time management; and working in teams.
GPLLI Candidate Description: “Qualified candidates are Lions ready to pursue leadership roles within their Lions communities. Club Leaders would benefit from attending.” NOTE: Previous attendees are not eligible to participate without prior approval from the Institute Coordinator.
GPLLI Sponsors: Multiple Districts 3 (Oklahoma), 9 (Iowa), 17 (Kansas), 26 (Missouri) and 38 (Nebraska).
WHEN: July 26-28, 2024. Check-in at the dormitory will take place from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 26, 2024. Adjournment and checkout, by Noon on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
WHERE: Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville Missouri.
COST: US $220 per attendee if payment received on or before April 30, 2024. Cost increases to US $240 beginning May 1, 2024. Registration covers single occupancy room, seven meals, and all course materials. Lion attendees may request to room together if desired. Mail completed application and full payment

Midwest Faculty Development Institute

Purpose of Faculty Development Institute (FDI): As a train-the-trainer focused institute, the primary purpose is to enhance training delivery skills and training techniques that will increase the quality of training and overall effectiveness of Lions leadership development programs. Given the limited FDI slots, acceptance into the institute is not guaranteed. Each applicant will be vetted prior to final selection to attend the training. Accepted applicants will be notified by the Secretary/Registrar. Applicants not selected will have their course fees returned.
FDI Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Current active member of a club within the constitutional area.

  • Not attended an FDI within the last five (5) years. (International or Local)

  • Have an interest in improving training delivery skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of Lions’ culture, Lions leadership experience, and comfort using PowerPoint is preferred.

  • Expectations: Upon acceptance, participants are obligated to the following conditions.
    o Attend all sessions of the 3-day institute.
    o Arrange personal travel to and from the institute.
    o Complete all pre-assignments prior to arrival.
    o Arrange to be observed and evaluated conducting a local training event within 6 months of attending the FDI. The evaluation will be certified by the GLT MD Coordinator and Council Chair.
    o Upon “certification”, assist in facilitating leadership training at the District, Multiple District, and area levels.
    FDI Sponsors: Multiple Districts 3 (Oklahoma), 9 (Iowa), 17 (Kansas), 26 (Missouri), and 38 (Nebraska).
    WHEN: July 25-28, 2024. Registration is from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
    Classes begin at 8 A.M. sharp on Friday, July 26. Checkout by 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
