Laurel Lions giving aid to a victims of a home fire

Adam and Charlene Burns of Dixon, Nebraska, lost their house in a fire in November of 2021. The couple, alongside their children Christopher (14), Kory (10), Summer (8), and Skye (4), were devastated to watch their house burn on a very frigid November night. The Burnes’s purchased the house in 2017.  It had been home to Adam’s grandparents, Cliff and LaVern Strivens, for years before they both passed away.

Both Adam and Charlene are US Army Veterans with a combined 12 years of active service. Adam was stationed in Korea and Ft. Jackson SC. Charlene was stationed in Ft. Hood TX and Ft. Jackson SC and was deployed two times to Baghdad, Iraq.

Larry Cross, Vice President of The Laurel Lions Club presented the children with backpacks, school supplies, and toys at a community-wide concert fundraiser for the family in December. The couple plans to rebuild their home in Dixon, NE.

Lion’s Club presents school supplies

A benefit was just recently held on August 29th, 2021, at the Belden Fire Hall for John and Emily Koch and family.  Larry Cross of the Laurel Lion’s Club presented the Kock’s daughters with backpacks and gift cards on behalf of the Lion’s Club.

The Kock family suffered a house fire on July 5th, which led to them losing everything due to smoke and water damage.  John and Emily have lived in Belden since 2008.  They have four girls, Izabella (Junior), Gabriella (Sophomore), Stella (8th grade) and Ambriella (5th grade) who attend LCC School.  John works at Hydraulics in Hartington and Emily works at First Family Dental in Laurel.  They are active in Belden and Laurel and one of the kindest families anyone could meet.  The benefit brought a lot of people to help support them on their journey of making a new home.
